The board deliberated on various issues and reached the following major decisions:

ENFORCEMENT OF TAX LAWS

The board appeals to all security agencies to support Revenue Boards in effecting compliance with tax laws.

PAYE GUIDELINES FOR 2006

For the avoidance of doubt, the board emphasizes that the PAYE guidelines for the year 2006 in circulation, should be strictly adhered to.

TAX REFORMS BILLS

The board noted the progress so far made by the national assembly and appealed that action be expedited in the passing of the tax reform bills.

SUPERVISION OF INTERNALLY GENERATED REVENUE SOURCES

The board advised state governments to ensure that all internally generated revenue sources are placed under the supervision of the board of internal revenue.

TAX DEFAULTERS SEEKING PUBLIC OFFICE

The board appealed to stakeholders not to vote or appoint tax defaulters into public offices in line with section 85 of the personal income tax act.

ILLEGAL TAX REGULATIONS

In promulgating laws by federal, states and local governments, the board advised regulating agencies of government to avoid making tax regulations that have the effect of increasing the incidence of multiple taxation.

BONUS FOR EARLY FILING OF TAX RETURNS

Tax payers are encouraged to take advantage of the provisions of the personal income tax act (PITA) section 45, laws of federation of Nigeria , (LFN 2004) in order to enjoy one percent (1%) bonus of tax payable for early filling of self assessment returns.
